People can breathe a sigh of relief as the Punjab government has no plan of increasing Metro bus fares anytime soon.

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar rejected the proposal while chairing a meeting of the standing committee on finance and development.

The proposal was submitted six months ago.

We cannot put an extra burden on the poor people of the country,” he said.

The PTI government had announced that fares would be increased after it came into power in the province.

The Metro bus runs from Shahdara to Gajju Matta in Lahore. The total distance is 27 kilometres. One-way fare is Rs20 and more than 150,000 people use the bus every day, according to the authorities.
