Shirdi Trust demands an apology from Rahul Gandhi for hurting followers’ sentiments in his tweet

NEW DELHI: Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust on Wednesday demanded an apology from Congress chief Rahul Gandhi for hurting the sentiments of the followers of Sai Baba of Shirdi following a tweet in which the Congress leader had suggested that an alleged scam involving Union railway minister Piyush Goyal and his wife had the blessings of Shirdi.

Earlier today, the Congress leader had in a tweet taken a dig at railway minister Piyush Goyal and his family’s involvement in an alleged scam.

“Friends…’The miracle of Shirdi’ have no ‘limits'”, he tweeted.

Chairman of the Trust, Dr Suresh Haware, in a tweet demanded that the Congress leader should apologise to the followers of Shirdi for insulting the deity (Haware’s Twitter handle is not verified).

“Rahulji, it is unfortunate to drag the name of Shirdi for political gains. Saibhakts from around the world are hurt by it (tweet). We condemn it on behalf of all Saibhakts. You should apologise,” Haware tweeted.

Haware was responding to an earlier tweet by Rahul where he had taken a dig at railway minister Piyush Goyal and his family’s involvement in an alleged scam.

On Tuesday, Congress had demanded the resignation of Goyal alleging that his family has business interests in companies that are in default.

Congress leader Pawan Khera said at a press conference that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi talks of probity, he is silent on Goyal’s family investments, which “have not been made public” by him despite holding a public position.

He alleged that Goyal’s wife owned a company that started with Rs one lakh capital and has made profits to the tune of Rs 30,000 crore in 10 years, which was akin to the “Jay Shah model” of investment where the company’s turnover grew multiple times during the Modi Government.
